Hello Texas ASLA Chapter members:

World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM), an international month long celebration of landscape architecture, is happening now! Through events and social media, WLAM provides a platform to showcase our profession to the public by highlighting landscape architect-designed spaces and demonstrate how landscape architecture affects all our daily lives. We can’t wait to see what you share so please tag @TexasASLA and use #WLAM2019 and #TexasASLA2019 when posting pics!

In addition to all the events that our sections have planned, our BIG event for April is our annual conference. Have you registered for the 2019 Texas ASLA Conference in Irving? If not, please do so here. Centrally located between Dallas and Fort Worth, Irving is the ideal place to host our annual meeting due to the city’s focused approach in balancing the needs of their residents and businesses while investing in its sustainable development and economic growth.

The theme for this year's conference is FUSE. More specifically, how landscape architects are part of a collaborative industry fused together with multiple disciplines and trades. Even though we all specify and excel in our differing fields, it is critical to remember that in order to achieve true excellence we must work as a cohesive unit. The Conference Planning Committee, chaired by Anne Harman, has developed a robust program full of learning, engagement, and interaction. Our keynotes are rich in content ranging from micro to macro: Wednesday afternoon will showcase how the waterway system in Dallas–Fort Worth can be used as a guideline for a new metropolitan urbanism model; Thursday morning will concentrate on the uniqueness of Irving as it balances the needs of their residents and businesses while responsibly investing in its environment and economy; and Friday will emphasize the importance of inclusion across demographics for talent retention and sustainable economic development. On the Expo floor, look for two additions: Learning Labs from the Experts which allows you to gain 1 HSW CEPH from four 15 minute presentations during the Exhibit Hall Breaks, and the revival of Vendor Bingo with three stellar prices.

Above and beyond the fantastic speakers, events, and expo opportunities planned for you, we hope you will also take advantage of Irving’s amenities: explore more than 80 parks on 1,873 acres; jog around scenic Lake Carolyn; stroll along the charming waterfront of Mandalay Canal; enjoy the night life at the Toyota Music Factory; or visit the 23 square miles dedicated to master-planned developments and districts at your leisure.

In closing, I hope you will take the opportunity to thank the committee members; professional and student volunteers; and Jennifer Fontana, our Executive Director, who have spent countless hours planning events this month and throughout the year. Plus, please take ample time to visit and thank our loyal exhibitors and sponsors whose support is critical to our Chapter’s programing while advancing landscape architecture through advocacy, communication, education, and fellowship.

Thank you for your membership in Texas ASLA and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
