CALL FOR SESSION SPEAKERS & FIELD SESSIONS

2020 Texas ASLA Annual Conference
Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center
900 E Market St.
San Antonio, TX 78205

Conference Dates:  April 7 - 9, 2019

Submission Due Date:  September 25, 2020

The Texas ASLA Conference Speaker Committee is seeking session proposals for speaker and field sessions for the 2020 Texas ASLA Annual Conference to be held on April 7-9, 2020 in San Antonio, TX. For over twenty years, the Texas ASLA Conference has been the annual statewide event that provides approved CEPHs for landscape architects.

The conference committee has selected CATALYST for the theme of 2020 Texas ASLA Conference. The definition of catalyst is: “a substance that increases the rate of chemical reaction or, a person or thing that precipitates change”. The aspiration of the conference is to inspire transformative action and energize attendees with stimulating topics focusing on water conservation. Much like the San Antonio Water Systems and the San Antonio River Authority are leading the state in water conservation efforts, our conference logo, graphics and overall message are intended to refocus our attention on water conservation. Submissions that demonstrate various water conservation techniques through design methods and potentially new or innovative products will be considered.

The Texas ASLA Conference Planning Committee is offering ASLA members and other professionals the opportunity to submit a written proposal for an oral presentation with graphics and field sessions. Presenters are encouraged to provide an engaging and dynamic session with emphasis on Heath Safety and Welfare lasting at least 50 minutes included question and answer. Proposals will be evaluated and selected for continuing education session presentations with the goal of educating fellow professionals on topics including but not limited to the following:

1) THE PROCESS

Marketing, negotiation, pro-practice, small business, design process, graphics, digital technology, cost estimating, materials, methods, codes, and more.

3) GREEN/SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES AND PRINCIPLES

Storm water management/ bio retention, irrigation, water harvesting, roof gardens, low-impact development, native plantings, climate change, habitat restoration, Sustainable Sites and more.

4) NEXT:  INNOVATIVE/EXPANDING MARKETS

Deadline:

Written proposals including the online application must be received by September 25, 2019 to be considered by the speaker committee.

Presenter Benefits:

Presenters will receive half off the conference registration cost and one ticket to the Annual Awards Recognition Session if requested. Presenters will be provided with classroom space, a projector that is Mac/PC compatible, 1 or 2 screens for projected images, and a microphone podium within the Convention Center. Although attendance will vary at each educational session, each classroom seats approximately 240 people

There is the potential for a limited number of field tours to occur outside of the Convention Center in the form of a historical walking tour, outdoor lecture, or visit to a local case study. The committee will consider these ideas from presenters as feasible within the time limits of the conference.
