2010 Texas ASLA Student Design Competition
The Texas Chapter of ASLA 2010 state conference will be held in San Antonio March 11-12, 2010 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Winning entries will be displayed in the vendor hall during the conference. The formats for entries follow the national ASLA student competition and hopefully encourage students to enter the national competition as well. We understand the students’ time is at a premium and we hope with advanced notice we can generate interest and numerous entries.
This format allows students to enter any project completed after the second year of design studio. The following are the four categories a project may be submitted under. An undergraduate and graduate division is available for each of the categories:
-Analysis and Planning
-Research
-General Design
-Residential Design
Projects may be from other design competitions or work they have completed on their own.
Submittals will be required to follow the National ASLA student design guidelines as the Official Entry Format Sample . No hard copies please. All entries shall include a CD with each page layout saved as an individual digital image. No entry shall have more than 20 pages. The images shall be saved as .jpg and have a resolution of 200dpi. Winning entry images will be displayed at the conference from the CD submittal. Further details of format and requirements can be viewed at-
http://www.texasasla.org/content/2010-texas-asla-student-design-competition
Students shall not have their name or school visible on any sheet layout or CD EXCEPT on the Official Entry Form. This will ensure the jury will not know who has submitted a project. The official entry form will only be viewed by the student design competition committee.
Disqualification:
ASLA retains the right to disqualify any entry that does not meet the program requirements.
Deadline for submittal will be January 29, 2010 to allow students to complete and submit the presentations over the Christmas break if need be. No entries will be accepted after this date. Winners will be announced at the banquette the evening of Thursday March 11, 2010.
Each school is asked to display the official entry format sample in an area accessible to all students as well as make copies of the official entry form available. It is encouraged that each studio professor presents this opportunity to eligible students in their program. Promotional information such as posters and banners to hang in the hallways will be sent to each school soon in another attempt to spur interest.
Questions shall be emailed to Ricardo A. Garcia at ricardo@rialtostudio.com. All questions will be compiled, answered, and posted to the Annual Conference webpage of the Texas ASLA website. Please reference the student design competition in the subject line of the email. No questions will be accepted after December 14th.
