ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO: Prepare for Chicago
The ASLA Annual Meeting has a great lineup of keynote speakers and professional development opportunities.

Registration for the 2009 ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO, September 18–21 in Chicago, is still tracking ahead of 2008, which was the second largest meeting in ASLA history. Don’t miss these great keynote speakers and be sure to arrive early at the Arie Crown Theater to get a good seat:

  • Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, Hon. ASLA, at the Opening General Session on Saturday, September 19, at 8:00 AM sharp. We’ll also present Mayor Daley with the ASLA LaGasse Medal.
  • Kermit Baker, chief economist for the American Institute of Architects and senior research fellow for the Joint Center for Housing Studies, Harvard University, will present “What’s Next: The Economic Outlook for the Landscape Architecture Industry” on Sunday, September 20, at 8:00 AM.
  • Lisa Heinzerling, associate administrator of theU.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Policy, Economics, and Innovation, on Monday, September 21, at 3:00 PM.

Here’s a checklist of things to do before you leave for Chicago:

  • Purchase your event tickets. Many of Friday’s tours and field sessions are selling out. On Saturday evening, join the ASLA Council of Fellows as they induct their newest members. Don’t miss Sunday evening’s Gala at the Art Institute of Chicago, enjoy delicious food and drink and dance to the sounds of Malik’s Ultimate Band. On Monday evening, say farewell to good friends at the President’s Dinner and presentation of ASLA honors.
