08.17.11

That's the kick-off date for the nationwide public awareness campaign for Landscape Architects. At 12:00 noon (time for lunch) landscape architects will launch a public awareness effort to promote the profession to the public. The kick-off efforts will occur relatively simultaneously across the country. Long term public awareness efforts will be aligned quarterly. At least one per quarter is the goal. Quarterly activities will be built around a theme: Water, Active Living, Green thinking, etc. We want your ideas, and commitment to participate, for the kick-off and the long term campaign. For the kick-off, suggested activities could be something as simple as placing a sign at a project site stating that it was designed by a landscape architect or conducting a charette to redesign a public space. National ASLA is developing branding collaterals such as T-shirts, signs, handouts, website destinations and videos for the campaign. We need a coordinated effort across our state. If anyone has PR ideas, projects they would like to see highlighted, or would like to help in any way contact Kimberly Terrell at (713) 446-7876 or k-terrell@sbcglobal.net. Kimberly will be attending the national PR ASLA Summit in Washington, D.C. on July 22-24. Please get your ideas to her as soon as possible or contact her with any questions. You can also join a Facebook group to follow the plans at http://www.facebook.com/theunderstory. And save the date 8.17.11 to be part of the outreach.
